Who We Are

Chapel Place is a Presbyterian Church of Arabic speaking immigrants and their families in Canada. CPPC is part of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. The Book of Forms used as a guide to the office-bearers of the church in all ordinary matters, ”to which was added, and as setting forth the law and practice of the church.” We are one of Churches of Oak Ridges presbytery therefore; it abides by its doctrinal beliefs, as summarized in the "Living Faith" booklet.
What We Hold To
We, as Presbyterians, hold the Bible as the only authority for spiritual truth and conduct. As Arabic speaking middle-easterners: Arabic is our mother tongue and our cultural background is middle-eastern.
How We Are Different
As immigrants in Canada, we have been adjusting to the Canadian culture and lifestyle, trying hard to further prove and establish ourselves in the North-American society. The second generation: faces the challenge of establishing their new and unique identity

“so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Romans 12:5

OUR RESPONSE TO

Recent Remits by General Assembly 2019

We, at Chapel Place Presbyterian Church in Toronto, Canada, believe that the Bible has one definition of marriage. It is a covenant relationship between a man and a woman.

The 2019 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada passed a recommendation to make marriage a covenantal relationship between a man and a woman or between any two adults.

This newly recommended definition has not been finalized yet, it has to be approved by the majority of presbyteries and the following General Assembly. The new addition about marriage as covenantal relationship between two same sex adults has grieved us and broken our hearts.

This perspective strays away from the teaching of Scripture. It deviates from the Order of Creation. It contradicts the teaching of the prophets in the Old Testament as well as the teaching of the Lord Jesus and the Apostles in the New Testament.

We will continue to adhere to the Biblical perspective of marriage as a covenant between man and woman. There should be no other place for sexual relationship outside this covenant bond.

We are not prepared to ordain (nor participate in, nor witness the ordination of) self-avowed individuals who are in same sex relationship, as minister or ruling elders. We will not allow public nuptial services blessing same-sex relationships. We will abide by our faith in God as revealed in Jesus Christ, obedient to the authority of Scripture and to our calling to be God’s witnesses faithful to His divine ways and truth.

Further, should the Presbyterian Church of Canada ratify the new definitions and practices in the coming year 2020 , we will pursue, along with like- minded churches, every legal approach to secure our gracious exit from the denomination.

It is time to be united in prayer and fasting. May God keep us all in His perfect will and guide us to the right steps that honour His name.
